One Drawing a Day: Lakefront Restaurant Illustration
I decided to take a different approach with this illustration. I started off by importing existing models of boats from 3D warehouse into SketchUp, then building/designing the architecture around the environment. Typically, I’ll start with modeling the architecture, then add all the environmental content towards the end of the modeling or illustration process. Working backwards has been an interesting way to create an architectural illustration. It forced me to think more about the mood and atmosphere of the piece rather than solely focus on the architecture. I started off by quickly drafting a rough floor plan, then jumped straight into SketchUp to start modeling.
